Park Towers DIFC: 6 Days Holiday Trip to Dubai
On return from a short holiday trip to Dubai, I decided to write a review for Tripadvisor about where I stayed and my holiday experience. I must have done a good job because I have been approached by a number of people for additional information about Dubai.
Burj Kahlifa/Fountains/Dubai Mall – do this in 1 day – I would recommend booking the evening trip to the top of Burj Khalifa. If you are romantic at heart then you would want to see the sunset and see shimmirng lights and the Palm Jumeirah at night. Should be a thrill! As part of that day, see the old town which is a short walk across the fountains area.
You should spend at least 1 day visiting the old part of Dubai, Deira. Visit the gold shops and see the fake watch sellers enticing you. Gold is expensive now but will go higher so treat yourself to a 22ct present. If you buy gold items then you save on VAT but note that they will probably load the asking price with what they call workmanship. AED12 a gramme or thereabouts for workmanship is reasonable.
When you are in Deira, walk down to the Creek area where you can hop on a boat and do a few zig zags for AED1 (not much). If there are a few of you then you should be able to haggle a price for the whole boat for an hour.
For Burj Al Arab, you need to dress smart and try to book in for afternoon Tea. Basically, they try to keep hoards out as it is OTT chic. There is a Jumeirah Hotel shaped like a stretched sail next to it. Go in there and also through it, to use the beach. It is more up market.
Next door to Burj Al Arab is a Hotel with an old style souk. Go in there for a wonder. Check out that hotel. It is excellent. You may also be able to take a boat ride in the lake backing up this hotel. If you are feeling energetic then head to the Marina from there and spend the evening in that part. with densly populated skyscarpers.
Other sites to enjoy in Dubai include Wild Wadi, Indoor Skiing. Dubai is the only place in the world where there is an indoor ski slope. it is located in the Mall of Emirates.
Food is reasonably priced, high quality and clean. Dubai authorities are hot on clean living.
